The volcanos of La Réunion:
La Réunion is a mountain in the sea, formed by two volcanos. One that is located in the northwest; Le Piton des Neiges " (the Pike of Snows) with 3 069 meters. It has been an inactive volcano for 30 000 years. " Le Piton des Neiges " has an original relief, three semicircular cavities of 10 km of diameter they dig the central part of the volcano.
The other volcano is located in the Southeastern, is active and he enter in eruption almost every 10 months (last big one was March 1998). We call it the Fournaise (the furnace).
It is thanks to an activity of 3 000 000 of years that the island was born.
volcanos of La Réunion, like " the Founaise " that is still active are of hawaiano type, consisting of an explosive activity, and efusiva emitting 3 lava or effusions being able to reach 500°.
In addition, " the Fournaise " has a semicircular form and forms a volcano-shield of 50 km of diametro and a height of 2 000 meters.
The only road to the FournaiseThese are the circuses: Mafate in the northwest, Salazie in the northeast and Cilaos in the south.
The walls of the circuses draw circumference arcs that are imbricated. The three circuses are separated of narrow edges and have more of 2 000 meters of altitude.
We are going to see first a Mafate. In effect, it is an extraordinary landscape. There are immense walls, the cliffs of Mafate are impressive. It is the circus magical of the island, most beautiful, and also most isolated; in addition it represents 10 000 hectares of precipices, mountains and plateaus.
Soon Cilaos comes: Refuge of " the brown " slaves is antigo, with 1 200 meters of altitude, it consists of almost 6 000 inhabitants and one seba very beautiful of cryptomerias, and also vineyards...
Finally, Salazie: it is less wild and most accessible of the three circuses of the island. Salazie " because of a buried slave was named " who has founded the first towns of the stops with other black. Salazie is located to 45 km of the capital: St Denis, has a landscape of deep and green throats of where they bring forth impressive water jumps.
